Fizz, Public Mobile, Koodo or Virgin Plus: which cell phone plan should you choose in Quebec?

Comparison of Fizz, Public Mobile, Koodo and Virgin Plus bring-your-own-phone plans by Quebec prices, data, advertised speed, payment type and referral credits, with TELUS Mobility as a separate option. Prices recorded October 16, 2026 on the official sites, before tax.

Fizz, Public Mobile, Koodo or Virgin Plus, which one should you choose? In the October 16, 2026 check for Quebec, Public Mobile gave the most data per dollar from $30 up: 50 GB on 5G for $35 and 125 GB for $45. Fizz showed 40 GB for $35 and 70 GB for $40, has the smallest 5G tiers (2 GB for $25, 10 GB for $29), rolls unused data over and gives a new Quebec member $25 with a referral code. Koodo and Virgin Plus show the same postpaid prices, 20 GB for $40 and 60 GB for $45, provided you set up automatic payments ($10 more without them). The table separates price, terms and network instead of naming a universal winner.

Other option: TELUS Mobility

TELUS, which owns Public Mobile and Koodo, also sells its own 5G+ plans, at higher prices but with advertised speeds of up to 2 Gbps. Its Quebec bring-your-own-phone page showed on October 16, 2026:

TELUS plan Data Price/month Without discount
5G+ Select Family 15 GB $45 $55
5G+ Select 100 GB; calls and texts Canada–US $55 $65
5G+ Complete - Unlimited Unlimited; calls and texts in Canada, US, Mexico and France $65 $75

Prices include total discounts of $10 a month, including the pre-authorized bank payment discount. Eligible TELUS Home Services customers (Internet, TV or SmartHome) also save $15 a month on their first line, and TELUS says its 5G+ Complete plans include a 5-year Plan Price Lock. That makes it mainly worth a look if you already have TELUS Internet.

The TELUS Mobility guide explains its referral offer: a $50 credit for an eligible new customer who opens a consumer postpaid account with an eligible plan, after claiming the offer before activation.

Around 50 GB: which costs least?

Plans between 40 and 70 GB are the most direct point of comparison across all four:

Provider Data Price/month Advertised speed Price condition
Fizz 40 GB / 70 GB $35 / $40 5G Plan builder price
Public Mobile 50 GB / 70 GB $35 / $40 5G up to 250 Mbps Prepaid; SIM or eSIM extra
Koodo 60 GB $45 5G up to 1 Gbps Pre-authorized payments ($55 without)
Virgin Plus 60 GB $45 5G up to 1 Gbps Autopay ($55 without)

In the October 16 check, Public Mobile gave 10 GB more than Fizz for $35, and both showed 70 GB for $40; Public Mobile’s 70 GB plan also covers the US and Mexico. Against Koodo and Virgin Plus at $45 for 60 GB, Fizz at $40 for 70 GB costs $5 less per month, or $60 over 12 months; with the $25 LOXCY credit in Quebec, the first-year gap reaches $85. Public Mobile at $35 for 50 GB costs $120 less over 12 months than Koodo or Virgin Plus, before the SIM card cost. These gaps use displayed prices before tax and assume automatic payments at Koodo and Virgin Plus.

For the referral, enter code LOXCY in the order summary before finalizing activation: the new member gets $25 in Quebec. The new member’s monthly plan must be at least $20 after applicable discounts and before taxes, and both plans must remain active when the new member reaches two months of service; the code can’t be added retroactively. See Fizz plans · Fizz Mobile guide and code LOXCY.

If you choose Fizz: enter code LOXCY in the order summary before finalizing activation; $25 in Quebec after 2 months of eligible service.

The 70 GB for $40, 125 GB for $45 and 175 GB for $50 plans can be used in Canada, the US and Mexico and add 1,000 calling minutes to selected countries. Public Mobile states speeds of up to 100 Mbps on 4G and up to 250 Mbps on 5G. These are prepaid 30-day subscriptions that renew automatically; a SIM card costs $15 and an eSIM $5. Each plan earns 2% back in Public Points, which can be used to lower the bill, among other things. Public Mobile has an invitation program: a person who activates with a member’s code gets a $10 credit, taxes included, and the member earns 1 Public Point per month while the invited person stays subscribed. The page notes also described an online promo-code discount for new activations from October 15 to November 11, 2026: $5, $7 or $10 a month for 24 months on the $30, $35 and $45 plans. See Public Mobile plans — we don't monetize Public Mobile; this mention is not paid.

If you choose Public Mobile: no invitation code is published here; ask a friend or family member who is already a member for theirs before activating.

Fizz, Public Mobile, Koodo or Virgin Plus: the choice depends on data and payment type

Based on prices recorded October 16, 2026, Public Mobile gives the most data per dollar from $30 up, on prepaid and with a lower advertised 5G speed. Fizz stands out for its small 5G tiers, rollover data and a $25 credit in Quebec with a referral code. Koodo and Virgin Plus cost $5 to $10 more per month around 50 GB, on postpaid and with automatic payments required. Before ordering, confirm the price, data and coverage on the provider’s site.

In practice:

  1. Check how much data you actually used over the last three months before picking a tier.
  2. Make sure your phone is unlocked and compatible, ideally with eSIM.
  3. Enter the referral code while ordering: LOXCY for Fizz, in the order summary before finalizing; $25 in Quebec.

The Fizz Mobile guide covers code LOXCY, eSIM and number transfer; the TELUS Mobility guide explains the $50 credit for a new customer. For home Internet, see the EBOX, Fizz and oxio comparison.
