WeCook, HelloFresh, Goodfood or Fresh Prep (formerly Cook it): which meal delivery service should you choose in Quebec?

Comparison of ready-to-eat meals and meal kits delivered in Quebec: price for 6 servings a week, delivery fees, regions served, flexibility and the real first-month cost, welcome discounts included. Prices recorded October 16, 2026 on the official sites, before tax.

WeCook, HelloFresh, Goodfood or Fresh Prep: which one? Pick the category first: ready-to-eat (cooked meals you reheat) or meal kits (ingredients and recipes). Based on prices recorded October 16, 2026, for 6 servings a week over four deliveries, HelloFresh was the cheapest first month ($284.79 with its public offer), but you have to cook. For ready-to-eat meals, WeCook was the cheapest ($295.73 with code BD366M100, including a $100 discount over two orders). Fresh Prep, which absorbed Cook it in 2025, came to $331.77, and Goodfood, under CCAA protection since August 2026, to $344.93 with a referral link.

Ready-to-eat or meal kits?

All four services deliver weekly on a subscription, but they don’t all sell the same thing. Price per serving is hard to compare until the category is settled: a ready-to-eat meal replaces cooking time, a meal kit shortens it.

Ready-to-eat

Cooked meals you reheat

WeCook (ready-to-eat only), plus the ready-to-eat ranges of Goodfood and Fresh Prep. Meals arrive fresh in single servings and reheat in 2 to 3 minutes in the microwave. No groceries, no pots to wash.

Meal kits

Pre-portioned ingredients and recipes

HelloFresh (meal kits only), plus the kits from Goodfood and Fresh Prep. You cook for 15 to 40 minutes depending on the recipe, for 2, 4 or 6 people. The price per serving is lower, especially for a family.

WeCook vs HelloFresh vs Goodfood vs Fresh Prep — 2026 table

Reference basket: 6 servings a week, meaning 3 recipes for 2 people for meal kits, or 6 single meals for ready-to-eat. Prices shown in the official subscription flows for a new customer in Montreal, without creating an account.

Prices recorded in the official subscription flows with a Montreal postal code, without creating an account or placing an order. The first month: which costs least?

Welcome offers are spread over several orders. The useful number is not the price of the first box but the total of the first four weekly deliveries, discounts and delivery fees included, for the same 6-serving basket:

Service Offer used 1st order After 2 orders First month Per serving
HelloFresh (meal kits) Public offer: 50%, 20%, 15%, 15% $41.97 $120.11 $284.79 $11.87
WeCook (ready-to-eat) Code BD366M100: $50 + $50 $42.94 $93.87 $295.73 $12.32
Fresh Prep (kits or ready-to-eat) Public offer: 50% off the 1st order $44.40 $140.19 $331.77 $13.82
Goodfood (kits) Referral link: 35%, then 10% × 3 $60.53 $155.33 $344.93 $14.37

Over four weeks, HelloFresh cost $10.94 less than WeCook, provided you cook all three dinners. Among the three ready-to-eat options, WeCook was the cheapest: $36.04 less than Fresh Prep and $48.98 less than Goodfood ready-to-eat ($344.71). Over the first two orders only, WeCook with BD366M100 cost $26.24 less than HelloFresh, because the $100 discount lands in two orders instead of being spread out.

After the first month, the gap shifts: the HelloFresh discount continues at 10% through the 9th box, for $125.91 off this basket in total, plus the first delivery. Without any discount, a regular week cost $94.93 at HelloFresh, $95.79 at Fresh Prep, $100.93 at WeCook and $104.11 at Goodfood ($108.10 in rural areas). In the small size, 6 WeCook meals came to $271.73 for the first month with BD366M100, or $11.32 per meal, for a smaller serving.

At WeCook, the offer on the plans page also gave $100, but as $25 off each of the first four orders: after four weeks the total is the same ($295.73); after two, BD366M100 gives $50 more. A split discount only has value if you were going to order again: an order placed only to unlock the rest of an offer is still spending. The real value of a promotion page walks through that math.

Which one fits your profile

HelloFresh

Cheapest if you cook

$284.79 for the first month of 6 servings and $94.93 a week afterwards, delivery included. The discount continues through the 9th box. You do have to cook every recipe.

WeCook

No cooking, cheapest ready-to-eat

$295.73 for the first month of 6 meals, with the full $100 discount reached by the 2nd order with BD366M100. About fifteen recipes a week, reheated in 2 to 3 minutes, freezable if needed.

Fresh Prep

Kits and ready meals in one delivery

The cheapest delivery in this comparison ($6.99) and the option to mix recipes to cook with ready-to-eat meals. Delivery announced in several Quebec cities, including Saguenay and Rimouski.

Moving

Moving week

Without a working kitchen, ready-to-eat makes sense. WeCook delivers microwave meals and lets you plan orders up to 5 weeks ahead; confirm that the new address is served. The Quebec moving guide also covers internet.

Family

Four people or more

HelloFresh drops to $11.99 per serving for 3 recipes × 4 people and $10.99 for 6 people. WeCook also sells family-size meals of 4 to 5 servings, at $29.95 according to its FAQ, which count toward the number of meals in the plan.

Goodfood

Big portions, higher price

Goodfood says it designs its recipes to leave leftovers for the next day. It is the most expensive option for the reference basket, and the company is restructuring under the CCAA: orders continue, according to the monitor.

Goodfood — kits and ready-to-eat, company restructuring

Goodfood Market Corp., headquartered in Montreal, sells meal kits and, more recently, ready-to-eat meals. Standard delivery costs $10.99, plus a $3.99 rural fee in remote areas; coverage depends on the postal code. Goodfood says it designs its portions to leave leftovers. The referral link showed 35% off the first box, delivered free, then 10% off each of the next three, up to $86; no promotion appeared in the subscription flow without a link. Goodfood Market Corp. has been under CCAA protection since August 5, 2026; this is neither a bankruptcy nor a liquidation, and the court-appointed monitor says customers can keep ordering. Fresh Prep (formerly Cook it) — kits and ready-to-eat, $6.99 delivery

WeCook, HelloFresh, Goodfood or Fresh Prep: the category decides before the price

Based on prices recorded October 16, 2026, HelloFresh is the cheapest for anyone willing to cook, in the first month and afterwards. WeCook is the cheapest ready-to-eat option and delivers its $100 discount over two orders with BD366M100. Fresh Prep, the former Cook it, has the cheapest delivery and mixes both categories. Goodfood costs the most for this basket and is going through a restructuring. Before ordering, confirm delivery to your postal code and the total in the summary.

In practice:

  1. Decide whether you want to cook: meal kits or ready-to-eat.
  2. Count the servings you actually eat each week, then compare the total with delivery.
  3. Note the cutoff for skipping a week, and how many orders it takes to get the full discount.

The WeCook guide explains code BD366M100 and the order flow; the Goodfood guide covers the referral link and credits. If you are moving, see the Quebec moving guide.

Cook it, the Montreal meal-kit company, was acquired by Fresh Prep in 2024. According to Fresh Prep, Cook it officially joined Fresh Prep under one banner in 2025, and chefcookit.com now redirects to freshprep.ca. Fresh Prep delivers in Quebec, including Greater Montreal, Quebec City, Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke, Saguenay and Rimouski, and sells both meal kits and ready-to-eat meals.
Is Goodfood bankrupt?
No. Goodfood Market Corp. has been under the protection of the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) since the initial order of August 5, 2026. CCAA protection is neither a bankruptcy nor a liquidation. According to the court-appointed monitor, Raymond Chabot, customers can keep placing orders and Goodfood expects to fulfil them in the normal course of business during the restructuring. A court-approved sale and investment solicitation process is under way.
Can WeCook meals be frozen?
Yes. WeCook delivers its meals fresh, never frozen, and recommends eating them fresh. Its FAQ says they can be frozen if you cannot eat them before the expiry date shown. HelloFresh, Goodfood and Fresh Prep meal kits are fresh ingredients to cook; for Goodfood and Fresh Prep ready-to-eat meals, freezing was not addressed on the pages consulted.

On October 16, 2026, the WeCook plans page showed $100 split as $25 off each of the first four orders. Code BD366M100 also gives $100, but as $50 off each of the first two orders. After four orders the total is the same; after two orders, BD366M100 gives $50 more. At checkout on October 9, 2026, among 21 accepted WeCook codes, no campaign code gave more than $30 on one order or more than $60 after two.
Do HelloFresh and Fresh Prep have referral programs?
Yes. At HelloFresh, eligible members can send discounted boxes to new customers from the HelloFriends section of their account and receive a credit for each box claimed. At Fresh Prep, a member shares a unique link: the invited person gets a welcome credit on their first order and the member gets a credit once that order is billed. The amounts are not published in their FAQs. Cash Instinct does not monetize either program.
Transparency. This page contains the WeCook referral code (BD366M100), the matching WeCook referral link and the Goodfood referral link. At WeCook, an eligible new customer gets $100 off, split as $50 off each of the first two orders, and Cash Instinct currently receives a $105 WeCook credit per eligible referral (the account’s Silver tier; the schedule is $100, $105 or $110 for Bronze, Silver or Gold). At Goodfood, a new member gets up to $86 off their first four orders, and Cash Instinct receives $35 in Goodfood credits when that member signs up with the link and places a first order. These are credits usable with those providers, not cash payments, and they don’t reduce your discount. We don't monetize HelloFresh or Fresh Prep: their links are neither affiliate nor referral links, and mentioning them is not paid. The first-month ranking uses displayed prices and ignores these credits. Cash Instinct is not officially affiliated with any of these providers. Trademarks belong to their respective owners. Prices and offers are subject to change — always check the official sites. To learn more about how the guides are prepared, see About Cash Instinct.
