Moving in Quebec: transfer or switch Internet without paying twice
A July 1 timeline, EBOX’s and Fizz’s official rules for moving your service, and the right moment to use a referral code if you switch providers.
Quick answer: for July 1, book Internet early. EBOX asks to be notified at least 14 days before a move, earlier in summer, and lists an installation lead time of about 7 days. Already a customer? Move your service: it is currently free at EBOX and free at Fizz with self-installation. Switching providers? Enter a referral code when you order: GE911 at EBOX ($25 on the second bill) or LOXCY at Fizz ($25 in Quebec).
Transparency: Cash Instinct receives a reward when the codes or links in this guide lead to an eligible referral (details at the bottom of the page).
Timeline
The moving timeline
2 to 3 months before: check your credit report. According to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, landlords and phone and Internet providers can look at your credit report, and a weak report can make it harder to rent a home. Borrowell shows your Equifax score for free: see the Borrowell guide.
6 weeks before: choose Internet at the new address. Check the technology and speeds available at the new address, then decide: move your current service or switch providers. The EBOX vs Bell vs Videotron and EBOX vs Fizz vs oxio comparisons list rechecked prices.
At least 2 to 4 weeks before: book the installation. EBOX asks for at least 14 days’ notice and recommends requesting as early as possible in summer, when lead times get longer. Fizz also recommends requesting in advance. For July 1, aim for May.
Moving week: plan for a few days without Internet or a kitchen. At EBOX, service cannot be active at both addresses at once: installation happens after the old address is disconnected. Keep your phone ready as a hotspot. For meals, WeCook offers $100 off to new customers (see the WeCook guide).
After: return the right equipment and settle the rest. Check your old provider’s contract for the cancellation notice and the return of rented equipment. To pay the new lease’s rent by credit card, see the Chexy guide.

A referral code does not apply to moving an existing service: it is for new customers only.
New provider
Switching providers: the right moment for a referral code
A move is often when people become new customers. If you switch providers, enter the code while ordering:
EBOX Internet
Referral code GE911: a $25 credit on the second bill for eligible new customers in Quebec and Ontario, in the “Referral Code” field.
The same code LOXCY works for a first Fizz service: $25 in Quebec or $40 in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia. One code per person, on the first service.
If you switch providers: keep the old service until the new one works, then cancel it with the notice required by your contract. The CRTC’s Internet Code governs Internet contracts; the CCTS enforces it and handles complaints.

Borrowell — credit report
Free Equifax credit score and report, with no credit card or SIN required according to Borrowell. Useful before applying for a rental.
EBOX asks to be notified at least 14 days before a move and recommends doing it as early as possible in summer, with an installation lead time of about 7 days for guidance only. Fizz also recommends requesting in advance. For July 1, ideally book in May.
Is moving my Internet free?
At EBOX, moves are currently free. At Fizz, there are no fees with self-installation, and a technician required for an out-of-spec address is also free. Check the fees shown when you submit the request.
Can I have Internet at both addresses at the same time?
Not at EBOX during a move: installation at the new address happens only after the old address is disconnected. At Fizz, you choose the deactivation and reactivation dates. If you switch providers, the new service can be installed before you cancel the old one.
Can I use a referral code if I move my current service?
No. Codes GE911 (EBOX) and LOXCY (Fizz) are for new customers only. They apply if you use the move to switch providers.
Do I need to move my modem?
At Fizz, yes: bring your modem to the new address. At EBOX, if you have fibre, leave the ONT (fibre modem) at the old address; the technician installs a new one, and you bring the router.
