What is Achieva Financial?
Achieva Financial is an online savings institution and a division of Cambrian Credit Union. Achieva says it has operated online for more than 25 years. Accounts are managed through Online Banking, the Mobile App, phone support and ATMs rather than a branch network.
The product range includes a non-registered Daily Interest Savings Account, TFSA, RRSP and RRIF savings accounts, plus non-registered and registered GICs. Achieva also presents online investing through Qtrade Direct Investing; that is a separate investment service, not a deposit account.
For day-to-day saving, the useful distinction is between a variable savings rate with access to the balance and a fixed-term GIC that cannot be redeemed before maturity. Monthly account fees are $0, but individual transactions and ATM use can still have fees.

How the DGCM deposit guarantee works
Achieva Financial is listed as a virtual institution covered by the Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba (DGCM). The DGCM says eligible deposits at Manitoba credit unions are guaranteed without limit, including principal and accrued interest, subject to its rules.
The guarantee applies to eligible deposit products such as savings accounts, term deposits and GICs, including eligible registered deposits. It does not automatically cover mutual funds, member shares or other non-deposit investment products. Achieva's online investing service is therefore separate from the deposit guarantee.
| Criterion | Achieva (DGCM — Manitoba) | CDIC Banks |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage cap | None (unlimited) | $100,000 per category |

| Eligible deposit products | Savings, term deposits, GICs and eligible registered deposits | Depends on CDIC category and registration |
| Non-deposit investments | Not covered by the DGCM guarantee | Not covered by CDIC deposit insurance |
Confirm the product type and the applicable guarantee rules before relying on coverage.

Advantages and limitations to consider
- 🛡️DGCM coverage: Eligible deposits are guaranteed without limit under the Manitoba deposit-guarantee rules.
- 📈Several savings products: Daily savings, TFSA, RRSP and RRIF savings accounts, plus GICs from 1 to 5 years.
- 💸No monthly account fee: The $0 monthly fee does not mean every transaction is free; check the fee schedule for transfers, withdrawals and ATMs.
- ⏳Access timing: Incoming deposits may be held for 5 or 10 days, and outgoing Achieva Direct transfers need at least 3 business days.
- 🔒GIC restriction: Achieva GICs are non-redeemable before maturity, so they are not a substitute for an immediately accessible emergency fund.
- 🏧ATM limits and fees: ATM withdrawals are available up to $400 per day; the fee schedule should be checked for surcharges.
Who might find Achieva useful?
Achieva may suit someone who wants an online savings account, a registered savings product or a GIC and is comfortable managing money without a branch. The DGCM guarantee can also matter when the amount held in eligible deposits is above the federal CDIC limit.
It may be a weaker fit if you need a full everyday chequing account, frequent outgoing transfers, immediate access to a new deposit or a redeemable GIC. Compare the product, access and fee trade-offs before opening.
