Within 90 days of signing up, pay for at least $50 in purchases that earn Cash Back through Rakuten.com, the Rakuten app or the browser extension, in one or more orders. Amazon.com purchases do not count, except music.amazon.com.

The bonus is confirmed once the store confirms the qualifying Cash Back, which typically takes 3 to 14 weeks. Confirmed Cash Back and bonuses are paid every three months by Big Fat Check, PayPal, American Express Membership Rewards points or Bilt, or you can redeem your confirmed balance sooner for a gift card.
Why most Rakuten sign-up bonuses never get paid
Signing up is not enough: the $50 only arrives if the $50 spending condition is met within 90 days. In my own referral activity, at least 13 people joined through my link between December 12, 2025 and January 2, 2026, but only 2 completed the condition. The others show as Ineligible.
- Plan a real purchase first. Sign up when you already have $50 or more of shopping planned at a Rakuten store, not months before.
- Skip Amazon for this. Amazon.com orders don't count toward the $50, even if they earn Cash Back elsewhere.
- Check that each order tracks. Activate Cash Back through Rakuten before paying, then look for the purchase in your account.
- Mind returns. A returned or cancelled order can remove the Cash Back that was counting toward the condition.
Rakuten U.S. or Rakuten Canada: which one applies to you?
Rakuten runs separate programs by country. Rakuten.com is the U.S. program, paid in U.S. dollars; Rakuten.ca is the Canadian program, paid in Canadian dollars, with its own bonus and terms. A bonus earned in one program does not carry over to the other.
- You live in the United States: use this page's referral link.
- You split your time between Canada and the U.S.: the current U.S. offer page requires the new member to be located in the 50 states or D.C. to qualify, and payment by check or PayPal requires a mailing address. Only use the U.S. program if you actually shop and receive payments there.
- You live in Canada: use Rakuten Canada instead.
What my own Rakuten U.S. referrals paid
Personal experience: I also have a Rakuten.com (U.S.) account, separate from my Rakuten Canada account. In December 2025, two people who joined through my U.S. link completed the condition, and each earned me a $50 Refer-A-Friend reward. Rakuten paid the $100 to my PayPal account on February 13, 2026, in line with its quarterly schedule.
What this taught me: the bonus is real and Rakuten pays it on schedule, but most sign-ups never meet the $50-in-90-days condition. That is why this page puts the condition right next to the $50: the bonus only makes sense if you were going to spend that money at a Rakuten store anyway.
Limits of this observation: this is one account and one period. It does not guarantee the timing or the amount for another member; the terms shown by Rakuten on your sign-up day are the ones that apply.

Is there a Rakuten referral code to type?
No text code is needed. The referral is tracked when you sign up through a member's referral link. Rakuten also accepts the referrer's account email at signup, but the link is the simplest method. Cash Instinct's U.S. referral link is https://www.rakuten.com/r/LISDON9?eeid=28187.
How much is the Rakuten U.S. referral bonus in 2026?
The offer verified on October 17, 2026 is a $50 bonus for the new member and $50 for the referrer. Rakuten says bonus amounts can change; the new member receives the bonus that was available on the day they signed up.
What do I need to do to get the $50?
Be a new Rakuten.com member located in the 50 United States or D.C., sign up through a referral link, then personally pay for at least $50 in purchases that earn Cash Back within 90 days of signing up. Several orders can add up to the $50.
Do Amazon purchases count toward the $50?
No. Rakuten's Referral Program Terms exclude purchases made on Amazon.com from Qualifying Purchases, except purchases made on music.amazon.com.
When will I receive the bonus?

You choose Big Fat Check, PayPal, American Express Membership Rewards points or Bilt. A mailing address is required for check and PayPal payments; it is not required for Membership Rewards or Bilt. Without waiting for the quarterly payment, you can also redeem your confirmed balance for a gift card from dozens of stores.
I live in Canada. Can I use this link?
The current U.S. offer page requires new members to be located in the 50 United States or D.C. to qualify for the sign-up bonus. If you live and shop in Canada, use Rakuten Canada instead, which has its own bonus and pays in Canadian dollars.
Why did my referral show as Ineligible?
In Rakuten's activity view, an expired or ineligible referral usually means the new member did not complete $50 in qualifying purchases within 90 days. Purchases that do not earn Cash Back, Amazon.com orders, returns or a pre-existing account can also prevent the bonus.
